The 33rd Annual Colorado Council for Social Studies conference has been rescheduled virtually for July 23! Join us for sessions originally planned for the March conference and adjusted to our current context, as well as new session offerings. As teachers face the uncertainty that COVID-19 has rendered on our educational system and its impacts on instruction, in a national climate in which the populace reckons with racism in the United States, we will gather for online sessions that equip teachers to center their students and empower future citizens. Working with a variety of methods for interpreting news media and social studies literacy, teachers will be ready to equip their students with increased understanding of the various voices that are or should be heard in a democracy, the ability to exercise their own voices effectively,  as well as the ability to break through the bias of information to analyze a source’s value, limitations, and narrative. Participants will develop an expanded language and toolbox with which to extend student abilities to develop a broader understanding of the world around them, as we dive into preparing for an unprecedented year of teaching.
