THEME: The Social Studies Classroom: Back to our Roots
Every day, educators are confronted by headlines and challenges that involve new or continuing educational issues at the district, state, and national levels. These can sometimes become distractions to the core questions that are, or should be, the center of the social studies classroom. How can students become lifelong learners of civics, economics, geography, and history? What practices and methods should teachers use to deliver the concepts and skills needed to make this happen? The 2016 Colorado Council for the Social Studies conference will focus on these essential questions. It is an opportunity to immerse ourselves in our roots, to celebrate the social studies, and to engage with other like-minded individuals. While there is a new venue and a new schedule, the emphasis will be the classroom and how educators can best complete the tasks that inspire kids to become better learners and, ultimately, to be active participants in civic life.
