Colorado Council for the Social Studies Outstanding Student Teacher Award

Each award recipient will receive:

  • A plaque
  • Recognition at the CCSS State Conference luncheon
  • Complimentary registration to the CCSS Conference

Criteria for the Outstanding Student Teacher Award

Middle (6-8) or High (9-12) Student Teacher

  • Major area of study in at least one social science discipline
  • Intends to teach in the field of social studies
  • Completed student teaching in social studies within the last 18 months

Elementary (K-5) Student Teacher

  • Demonstrates a special interest in social studies
  • Considers social studies an important area of study for elementary students
  • Student taught social studies in an elementary school within the last 18 months

Submission needs to include the following:

1)  A recommendation by the cooperating teacher or supervisor. Please comment on a specific teaching skill you saw demonstrated by this individual. 200 words maximum

2) A reflection from the nominated individual. Please respond to: "this is why I became a social studies teacher" with a specific episode from your student teaching experience.  200 words maximum

3) One artifact from student teaching. This is up to you. Choices could include, an assignment, a piece of student work, a student's recommendation of the nominee, a photo from your classroom, a web page. Please, no videos.

Nominations Deadline is March 15, 2018
